Project Plan

So this is that required planning page. Content here will be updated over a span of two weeks.

Goals
The ultimate goal is to make money. I’m building a store, so naturally I want that store to be profitable. Other then that, the store will be used as a blog for featured artists and photographers.

diagramSite Diagram

Wow. Isn’t it just so amazing. (Oh yes, feel the sarcasm). It’s up, it’s there–I don’t have much else to say. I didn’t want to make one in the first place, but because it is required, behold the diagram. It’s likely not a very desirable result, but hopefully it’s enough to fulfill the assignment. I really don’t see the benefit… maybe it would be useful for a larger site? Does anyone reading this find building a diagram useful?

web3v3exSite Layout

The size makes this image a little hard to see, but this is what I plan on using for the site layout; something dark, neutral, and interesting, but not too distracting. I move forward much better planning the site this way, rather than making a diagram. Even if not this “polished”, after figuring out the link names I’ll usually grab some scratch paper and sketch how I want the site to look. After I get the layout figured out, then I usually work out the content. I’m so backward, aren’t I?

  1. Hi Megan! I just wanted to let you know that the diagram is much more about a content map than a content layout. Have you had a chance to read the information architecture article yet? Having a good grasp of your IA will really help you with a Drupal site. You can fudge it a little when you create a site with WordPress and Joomla, but not really with Drupal.

    • Alright. I’ll look into it.

  2. I don’t really like the diagram, either, but I think it could be a useful tool to show clients how you will organize their site – and, as you said, for a larger site. I found a super easy to use and helpful sitemap/ diagram/ flowchart site – and free, too – which made the experience much easier, and also helped it relate more to information architecture because I wasn’t stressing about how to make a pretty diagram :) It’s called SlickPlan – check it out: http://www.slickplan.com/

  3. oops – what I meant by my first sentence is I don’t like diagrammING – not that I don’t like your ~beautiful~ diagram :)

    hehe

    • Haha thanks, though I did understand what you meant the first time. Thanks also for commenting and for sending the link; the site looks interesting, I’ll be sure to check it out.
